Art is a universal language of freedom that goes beyond any visible form to pierce on our emotional bodies and make us ignite to life.
Christie Devereaux is a Brooklyn-born fine artist, graphic artist, and former industrial designer. Her multidisciplinary background spans fine art, design, and performance, with a career that includes notable international commissions and exhibitions across New York. Background and Early Career Born in Brooklyn, Devereaux studied industrial design at the Pratt Institute. Alongside her design studies, she trained in modern dance at the Henry Street Settlement in Manhattan, performing with the renowned choreographer Robert Wilson and touring with the famous 1960s counterculture venue, the Electric Circus. In 1969, she moved to Italy, where she spent years working as a graphic artist and industrial designer. While there, she painted prominent religious commissions for the church and the state, including her most celebrated portrait of Padre Pio, which remains in the permanent collection of the Museum of Padre Pio in Pietrelcina, Italy. Artistic Style and Exhibitions Devereaux is recognized for her expressive themes, such as her Stormy Weather Series, which was showcased in a solo exhibition at the Interchurch Treasure Gallery. Her works often address portraits from a psychological perspective that captures the inner soul of the person. Her abstract nature inspired work was included in the Free, Fearless, and Fantastical group exhibition curated by Bina Sarkar Ellias at the historic New York arts institution Pen and Brush. Over the past years her contemporary abstract and figurative works also have been exhibited in New York City spaces like Lever House, Broome Street Gallery, New World Art Center, One Art Space in Tribeca and the Leonovich Gallery in Chelsea. As a member of the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), she has served as President and Vice President. You can explore her official portfolio on the Christie Devereaux Website or stay updated on her latest work via her official Facebook Page and Instagram Profile.
